2006 PGA TOUR Highlights
Started the year with a pair of top-10s. Closed with a career-best 8-under 62 to finish runner-up at the Sony Open in Hawaii, his first top-10 in eight starts in Honolulu. Held the first round lead at the Sony Open in Hawaii thanks to a 5-under 65. It was his best effort since finishing T2 at the 2004 WGC-NEC Invitational...One week later, posted second consecutive top-10 with T10 at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. In only two events has pocketed $559,663, more than half the $920,988 he made in 26 starts in 2005...Finished alone in second at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, posting his third top-10 of the season in just five starts, including his second runner-up effort. Collected $583,200, enough to push him over the $1-million mark for the season...Following week, picked up his third career win at the Nissan Open. Held second- and third-round leads, including a four-stroke advantage heading into Sunday's final round. Tied with three others at 12-under after bogeying the 15th hole, took the lead for good when he birdied the par-3 16th hole and Fred Couples and Craig Barlow bogeyed the hole. Finished one stroke ahead of Adam Scott, who had posted at 12-under, over an hour and one-half before Sabbatini finished. Became seventh international winner in last nine years at the Nissan Open. Was first winner of tournament to post over-par final round since Tom Purtzer in 1977. Moved to No. 1 on the PGA TOUR money list for the first time in his career with over $2 million in earnings through six starts. Paycheck of $918,000 was $2,988 less than he made in 2005...Posted rounds of 68-66 on the weekend to finish T5 at the Canadian Open, his first top-10 since winning the Nissan Open in February.
